I have a thing about earflaps. That is, I love them.
As we saw last week, the Advent KAL hat doesn’t structurally need earflaps. But I couldn’t live without adding these ornamental earflaps, with the long I-cord braids that hang from them.
Of course, you can make the braids as long as you like; I’ve been told that teenagers are particularly into extra-long braids. If you have a ton of extra yarn, you could even add a pom-pom, but I didn’t want to obscure the lovely crown.
A big thanks to Noel, who is my favorite hat model. (I also covet her purple hair.) Before Advent concludes, I’ll put up a concluding essay about the symbolism in this design, a trend I hope to continue through the series.
