Today the men arrived at the Champs-Élysées, and the women took off for their first stage. Jared and I are taking a few days of our vacation to get away, just the two of us, so I wrapped up my men’s Tour spinning last night. There’s still another week of biking, and I’m feeling kind of sick, but I wanted to check in on where I’m at right now.
I did a lot of spindle spinning, in many places, all over the state of Maryland.
In the Olney post office…
At the bank…
Watching the kids in various pools…
At Sandy Cove family camp at the north end of the Chesapeake…
On a tiny train in Cabin John regional park…
At a yarn store where I worked in a previous life…
On the Metro…
On the Georgetown canal boat…
And of course, a whole lot in the car.
The upshot was filling twelve supported spindles with singles, which became four skeins. They were plied on my new toy: an EEW6, purchased pre-loved from my friend Dionne, and I’ve gotten a ton of spinning done on it too.
I spun a bunch of my combo-spin samples on the Electric Eel, and I also spun one skein each of the white and green. I even got them mostly washed, to get accurate TDF yardage measurements.
Here is my completed pile from 20 stages. Total of 1,404 yards; counted by yards of singles and plying, that’s 5,164 yards. That’s about 2.9 miles!
I plan on also observing Tour de Fleece Femme, though I’m slowing down a bit so I don’t run out of wool. I brought a good 2 lbs of wool, and I don’t want to buy more! Good grief!
For the TdFF, I’ve prepped the last of the combo spins as rolags to continue using my support spindles. I’m also going to make my last skein of grey on my CPW.
That’s enough for now. I’ve got some Advil I’m waiting to kick in, and then the Embassy Suites Managers reception. Oh yeah. Happy 15 years of marriage to my honey!
