Dyeing with Pokeberries

Hello my friends,

It’s tutorial time! I don’t know how this started, but apparently I’ve gotten into the habit of showing you how to do the cool things I do. I’ve been doing this dyeing stuff for over a year now, and from the start I have depended on people generously sharing their experiences, so I [...]

Field Office

This was my office today.

The Granary at Old Economy Village, for Erntefest. It was AWESOME and I had a great time, but I didn’t get out to see much else… which is a bummer, because I hear there were silk reelers and spinners. But I saw the broom guy, the cider guys, and I shared [...]

Corner Office

This was my office today.

You will notice, in addition to the piles of fleece and broom, the laptop for watching episodes of Stargate, headphones for hearing said episodes Stargate, mug of coffee and cell phone. All my basic working needs met on our little fire escape porch, with a pleasant breeze to boot. It won’t [...]

Le pieds de resistance

I don’t speak a lick of French, so I feel pretty clever in attempting a French pun, but feel free to smack me down if I’ve said something marvelously inappropriate. It was worth the risk, because here it is Sept. 22nd, and le Chausettes de Dentille are fini.

They are cute, and wonder of wonders, they [...]

I know you've been wondering

Pokeberry season is finally over in Ambridge, PA. Ever wonder what 86 lbs of pokeberries looks like?

That’s about 17 full gallon bags. They take up, from bottom to top, the entire right side of our new freezer.

Meet our freezer! Is it not “teh cute”? We got it from a lady who had a friend who [...]

'Tis a gift to be simple

My life is kinda complicated right now. We just moved, the house is nowhere near the state I’d like it to be in (and I haven’t yet settled on a happy state of housework mediocrity), my first paper is due in a couple weeks, I’m still kinda awkward around the bazillion new people I have [...]

In the way of themselves

Thanks again to mum for excellent pictures of her pretty fair isle. In a burst of inspiration last week, I started my matching sweater. And after two hours, this is how far I got:

The astute among you will notice this is a cast on row. A cast on row still in progress. As a hint, [...]

Details on the finished Corrugated Rib

The Rib is done!  It was a blast to work on because:

1) I put one color in the right hand and knit it the overhand way and the other color in the left hand and use the continental way of knitting, and that makes the whole thing easy and fun.

2) I LOVE bright colors

Status: Poke-buried

Pre-note: 10 points for my mom for being started on her sweater… and for providing lovely content on days that I am snowed under with classes and other things! My shetland yarn is still in a sad box in a sad closet, waiting for an evening when I have a few free hours to just [...]

TV Watching and a Corregated Rib

I decided last Sunday that I was ready to cast on for the Alice Starmore fair isle sweater that Rebecca and I are doing simultaneously.  (Hers in different yarns and colors.)  So I decided on how wide and long I wanted the sweater, worked out how many pattern repeats and [...]
