Yesterday, between hangin’ with the prayer shawl ministry and finding myself with nothing to do and watching Secret of Nimh on Hulu, I managed to finish the Prayer Shawl.

Here it is blocking. I got creative as my usual surface, the guest bed, was covered with stuff I hadn’t organized to pack yet.

Epilogue for a Shrug

Once upon a time, there lived a maiden who endured a harsh, cold exile in the land of corn known in atlases as “Ohio.” Her fair skin and frail constitution suffered mightily in the gales of the unending winter of this unforgiving land, but she survived gaily nonetheless, because her sentence was no punishment. No, [...]

I must be a Real Knitter - I packed yarn first

At the polite suggestion of my very sensitive and considerate husband, yesterday I didn’t read ANY Yarn Harlot archives and instead lived vicariously through myself for a change. Unfortunately, most of this involved working on the project-that-shall-not-be-named, which is far enough along now that I can’t post pictures of it anymore. Which is killing me, [...]

Byebye Temp Cat

This post is devoted to our temp cat, SesquaHanna, who went to back to mommy and daddy in her brand-new house yesterday. I learned a lot of things last week about being a knitter with a cat. For example:

This is cute.

This is problematic. (At least when you’re a slob who leaves around projects with nice [...]

Today was perfect. Here is why:

1. I got to make blueberry buttermilk pancakes with the lovely Megan. They were all around perfect, got rid of leftover buttermilk, and with an obsequious amount of butter and fresh blueberries from our CSA , they were scrummy.

2. I knit. Thanks to [...]

Uganda in a week. Uganda in a week.

My mantra all day has been “We’re leaving for Uganda in 7 days.” Then I pause and wait to see if my eye is twitching. It isn’t, which deeply concerns me. Then I go back to working for five minutes, then think “We’re leaving for Uganda in 7 days.” Why the continued suspicion of twitch? [...]

Stairway to Frogging

I know I did not warn you that I was going to disappear for a weekend, but I figure my readership is not large or rabid enough for this to be a major problem. Where did I go, you ask? AlL sOrTs Of PlAcEs.

Friday I went to Hershey park with my mum, [...]

11-Jun-2009

So this is the view outside my window this week.

A whole tree-full of cherries, just calling my name, saying “pick me! make me into cherry pies! please!” Asking around church had led me to the conclusion that every year, these cherries just go bad and fall off, with no one eating them but the birds. [...]

Alpaca's Angels

When we left off, our intrepid knitting heroes, J and R, had just left Pittsburgh and their new best friend (well Rebecca’s, anyway).

(his name is Max, and he sat perfectly still on Rebecca’s frogged sweater back without moving or jumping all over her, posing nicely for the camera with NO bribery at ALL.)

The team took [...]

Pennsylvania, Past and Future Residence

I am back from our whirlwind 5-day journey, and it was amazingly restorative. If any of you out there have ever worked in the ministry, then you know how badly I, a newlywed and a complete n00b in the church-work field, needed a break. And to take a break that involved listening to brilliant, experienced [...]
