Activities of the Femme Knitika

Due to having legs and feet covered with poison ivy, thanks to ill-advised bushwhacking through Columbia’s wilds on Friday, RebbieJaye has been bound hand and foot to be kept from scratching. So she doesn’t miss any important appointments, she called me, her evil twin, to fill in. I conspired with her husband to wreak havoc [...]

Summer Ambiance in Oakland Mills

Yet another glorious day is underway, with no sign of yesterday’s precipitational hullaballoo. Gotta love spring. The sky is blue, the tomato plants are growing, and there’s some kind of rock festival going on at Merriweather post that adds a nice fuzzy thumping to the ambiance.

We just watched the pilot of Firefly, and I finished [...]

Knitting Scrapes

In the interest of giving you some engaging copy, rather than just posting pictures of my knitting, today I decided to get myself into a Scrape.

Okay, that’s not quite how it went. Really, I was faced with the glorious prospect of a day with no work, no chores, just the ability to [...]

Prayer Shawls Made Cool by Sparky Old Ladies

Things I learned from this tank:

1. Grafting: this is so fun! There are no detectable seams on this garment.

2. Backwards knitting: is not that hard, and surprisingly rewarding on short rows.

3. There is a good reason I could not find a pattern for a vertically striped tank.

Here is some detail on the fun little kimono [...]

“Someone’s got the bloggin’ fever…”

That’s what our friend Fjord said last night while I was madly typing away during a Rock Band-ing session. So far it looks to be true; here we are at day 4! (Though when we got home from a Memorial Day party 20 minutes ago and I turned on the computer, he looked at me like [...]

Trellised leaf lace... in pink and purple zebra stripes!

Let me tell you about me and prayer shawls. When the prayer shawl ministry started at my church a few months ago, I’ll confess, I didn’t feel fantastic. I was already knitting in public at church functions, so I assumed that everyone would expect me to be prayer-shawling it up with the intrepid ladies who’d started [...]

Tank Blag

Yay, Rebecca has enough focus to post on the same thing two days in a row!

It’s a testimony to the newly heightened level of my obsession that I’ve made it halfway through this tank in about thirty-six hours.

Of course, I’m also now having to deal with the very real possibility that this tank will make [...]

A Knitting Blogger?! Maybe, if I can stick with one thing for more than two posts.

I have spent the past week and a half completely immersed in the writing of Stephanie Pearl McPhee. I read her book in a few days and didn’t have enough so I started reading through the archives of her blog: http://www.yarnharlot.ca. Since I’ve just finished the most enormous creative knitting endeavor of my life, I [...]
